While with the balanced power plan for some reason the cores are still parked but under even little load, the load spreads evenly on all the threads, and the e cores are utilized for stuff like windows update or whatever else light they are supposed to handle. So it seems like it's not working that way. Additionally, there are too many p cores parked as well. Do you use the high performance power plan? I've noticed that e cores aren't used for the things that they should on the high performance power plan and that's what the thread director is supposed to direct. This doesn't happen when you disable them on windows 11 though. While when you turn the e cores off all cores are unparked and work together. Windows 10 also parks cores when the e cores are enabled. Even on windows 11 which is behaving almost as bad as windows 10 and they say that the thread director only workds on 11. I like having the same mobo for few gens and changing only the mobo. I think that if I move away from Intel I will not come back. When the new CPUs will be released and not from Intel, I will change it in a heartbeat, especially if they will have AVX512. It seems that someone at intel is not thinking right anymore or they did it on purpose. Instead of putting different arhitecture at lower frequency they should have put the same arhitecture at lower frequency and it whould have had the same power consumption. This CPU consumes lots of power for nothing. ![]() Without doing that I would have returned the CPU long time ago because now I'm convinced, that using e-cores on a desktop CPU is a big mistake. ![]() I managed to use XMP and all the bells and whistles and did a bit of BCLK OC and making it a bit faster. ![]() I don't believe Raptor lake will be better. Sometimes I feel like the CPU is slow, trying to decide what to do. That was driving me nuts, waste of time and resources. Yes, there is something not working right. so as i said before we have to wait for all adjustments. It's a new thing for intel on consumer market, similar to Apple M chip, but Intel has to cover much more than Apple with their closed env. That's my opinion and rough thinking about it. Besides E-cores are doing jobs "in the background". I think that you always will wait for slower job to be done, to complete whole project. Plus there's a matter of cache, because L2 cache in E-cores is shared between 4 of them. 3.60 GHz won't do task faster than E-core 2.70 GHz (which are single thread cores). So this job is waiting for slower tasks to be done when P-cores done their tasks already. Fast, efficient, done.ĢP+E: some tasks are performed fast by P-cores and some are being done slower by E-cores. I think it might be, in spite of you're using 3 cores (2P+E) which may sound illogical.Īnd system scheduler (not talking about task manager or windows task scheduler that user can open) in my opinion has all to do, because he decide where put each job.ĢP: all tasks are being done with high speed and bigger priority - bigger than E-cores- and 2P is probably closer to 2x2P when doing their job. But for now It's an early baby stage and some tweaking and feedback from the community will be the best for both products to be better. I'm currently watching how Win11 and new 12th gen CPUs are handling with different apps and situations, because in some short feature want to upgrade. But that's the only way to do it for now. So I think that Microsoft has to tweak a bit more this part of the Windows to manage better in such situations.Īssigning cores for app as support suggested previously will be good until app is closed, when you run it again you're back in square 1. I think that the biggest role in this and similar to this issue plays OS itself (Windows in this case).īecause system and its internal process scheduler for all the tasks decide which cores will be assigned to which process, Intel Thread Director only advice which cores have less load or are good for this process or instructions and OS decide where to put it. ![]()
